• What's in this folder
This folder contains the Developer Info Assistant.
The Developer Info Assistant (DIA) is your gateway to the Apple's technical information resources and to the Technical Support organization. The DIA helps you to search the technical resources available from the CD and Dev Tech Answers (DTA) library on AppleLink host, and compose and send an AppleLink to DTS.
Beginning with Volume X of the Developer CD series, the Search Knowledge Base stack was integrated with the Developer Info Assistant stack. To use the search facility, formerly found in the Search Knowledge Base stack, click the Search… button on card one of the Developer Info Assistant.
From the DIA you will still be able to search the principal technical information stacks found on the CD. These include: SpInside Macintosh, Technical Notes, Human Interface Notes, Q & A, Inside Macintosh Vol. VI, Worldwide Development Guide to System Software, Guide to Software Localization, Contents Catalog and all of the develop stacks. If you can't find the necessary information on the CD, the Search facility in the Developer Info Assistant allows you to access the most current information in the Developer Technical Answers (DTA) library on AppleLink.
• General Information:
You must copy the Developer Info Assistant to your hard disk.
*** NOTE: IF YOU HAVE USED A PREVIOUS VERSION OF THE DEVELOPER INFO ASSISTANT, MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT COPY THE NEW VERSION OVER THE OLDER ONE. YOU MAY WANT TO USE THE NEW VERSION TO EXTRACT YOUR PROJECT AND PROFILE INFORMATION FROM THE OLDER VERSION BEFORE DESTROYING THE OLDER ONE.
Simply drag the folder titled "DIA Copy Me to Hard Disk" to your local volume. Then move MitemView™ (pathname - "DIA Copy Me to Hard Disk:CustomLink:MitemView") to your System Folder.
The Developer Info Assistant is a prototype. Please send comments and suggestions to KB.Feedback.
• Issues:
Use HyperCard 2.1; we recommend that you assign a 2000K partition.
Because this is a prototype, you will experience slow performance, particularly on low-end machines with minimal RAM.
You will accrue Applelink charges when connected to the DTA.
• Ways to Improve Performance:
Don't use the Search facility within the Developer Info Assistant to access technical information over the network.
Maintain local copies of all technical information stacks if possible.
A higher-end Macintosh will improve performance when using these stacks.
